Mission Dove Cambodia

As the windy season arrives in Cambodia, the breeze reminds us of movement and change how even gentle winds can bring new beginnings. At Mission Dove, we’ve been experiencing that same sense of movement in the lives of the young people we walk alongside. And because of the love of Jesus who modelled leadership through presence, compassion, and courage so, we continue to pass on that same love to the next generation.

Last month, we shared our fundraising calendar, inviting you to partner with us in supporting marginalized youth in our community, especially on Giving Tuesday. Your generosity continues to help create safe spaces where young people can grow emotionally, spiritually, and socially. We are deeply grateful.

This month, we want to share one of the many stories of transformation happening among our students an encouraging reminder of why your support matters.

VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT — Bell from Myanmar

ree

Adjusting to a new country, language, and workplace is never easy, but Bell, our newest volunteer from Myanmar, shared that Mission Dove has made the transition warm and meaningful.

“My name is Bell, and I’m from Myanmar. I’m currently a volunteer teacher at Mission Dove, teaching Level 6 students. Even though it has only been 2 months, it already feels like I’ve become part of the Dove family. We share meals, have devotions, chat, play games, and even enjoy self-care sessions together.

I first came thinking I would give and share my blessings. But very quickly, I realized it was actually a beautiful exchange — I am also receiving encouragement, friendship, and blessings from my colleagues and students. I’m truly grateful for where I am and what I’m doing right now.

Before coming, I faced many challenges and hardships, but I see them as part of His plan and opportunities to learn. When I look back at how this journey began, I can clearly see His perfect timing. By His grace, I made it through the process and arrived in Cambodia. Every moment here has reminded me of His miracles and kindness.

‘There is no coincidence with God.’ This phrase came to me when I first started at Mission Dove. I chose this organization with only a little knowledge about it, but everything pointed me here and now I know it was His plan.

I’ve learned so much about Mission Dove’s unique working culture — cooking and eating together, devotion time, self-care, friendly chats, flexibility, and how everyone values community. Their empowerment projects and community engagement inspire me deeply. Often, I find myself thinking, ‘Wow… how can a workplace be this fun?’

Looking ahead, we’re preparing to open a speaking class and a Bible study for teens. I’m excited to keep learning and to bring these experiences back to my home country someday.

Mission Dove has become a turning point in my journey, helping me grow as a teacher and shaping how I see work, community, and purpose,” said Bell.

Student Story: “Finding That I Am Not Different — I Belong.”

At our Youth Learning Centre, we believe in creating safe communities where young people can discover their identity, confidence, and purpose. Through programs like YESIC English SchoolReading Club, and Good Citizenship Club, students not only grow in skills but also in character and emotional maturity.

One of these young people is Somphors, a 17-year-old girl from the Punong Indigenous community. Her journey shows courage, transformation, and hope.

By Somphors, 17

My name is Somphors, and I’m a 17-year-old girl from the Punong ethnic group. I’m studying in Grade 12, and my family has five members my parents, my two siblings, and me.

In 2018, I left my hometown to study in Phnom Penh when I was in Grade 6. I stayed in a dormitory with students from different provinces. At first, I was excited to explore and learn new things, but soon I faced challenges like homesickness and sickness. I missed my family deeply. Thankfully, the leaders and students at the dormitory cared for me and helped me adjust.

In 2020, our dorm leader encouraged me to join YESIC at Mission Dove to learn English. I started from the basic level because I didn’t know any English. Slowly, I made new friends and began to enjoy learning.

I used to feel shy and uncomfortable meeting new people or trusting others. But through YESIC, I became more confident and humble. I learned to communicate better, trust myself, and recognize my strengths. Talking with foreign volunteers helped me understand people from different cultures. With encouragement from my teachers, I grew braver and found joy in connecting with others.

When COVID-19 began, schools closed, and I had to stop studying. It was a difficult time—I felt scared and anxious. But when schools reopened, I joined the Reading Club in 2022.

The Reading Club became a safe and happy place for me. It helped me gain emotional support, make new friends, and reflect on everyday life through stories.

In 2025, I joined the Good Citizenship Club. I wanted to keep learning and developing myself. Through this class, I learned about society, teamwork, and my own identity. One of my biggest challenges was leading a small group for the first time. It wasn’t easy, but slowly the group opened their hearts and connected deeply.

I feel proud of how far I’ve come, and I want to use what I’ve learned to help others. Thank you to Mission Dove Cambodia and all supporters in Cambodia and abroad. Thank you for your love, generosity, and for creating a safe community where I can grow. Even though I come from a minority group, I’ve learned that I am not different—I belong.
